Caroline Balzan, Mcast’s PR and communications manager (March 17), made only one statement in reply to my letter (March 1), saying that they “do their best to accommodate all applicants”.

Doing their best is not a guarantee that all applicants are accepted. I, for one, know from personal experience that this is not exactly correct and Balzan, being the school PR, should know it. Classes for a number of subjects have a limited number of places and, in fact, the school protects itself by “processing the applications on a first-come first-served basis”.

Last September, not all applications were accepted. I was the first one in a long queue to apply in person for a particular subject by going to Mcast in Paola on September 2, the opening day for application, using the official booking form.

Irrespective of being the first one, I was originally refused as I was informed that all the places were already taken by the online applicants, who had a week’s head start prior to those, like myself, who applied on the official booking form supplied with the brochure.

It was only after a long, hard struggle, involving a number of people, that I was informed that my application was finally accepted... in fact, this was just a couple of hours before the commencement of the first lesson.

The same happened to a number of other persons who attended the same class.

I expressed my opinion that the system being applied in processing the applications submitted is not transparent. It is unfair and discriminatory. Perhaps Balzan can elaborate and express her views on these matters too.
