After reading the On the Dot item about a corner restaurant in Xlendi blocking off the pavement, I felt compelled to add that it is not just the tables and chairs blocking the pavement but canopies with plastic sides. These are closed off when the restaurant is shut and, during the floods, people had to walk knee-deep in the water.

Xlendi seems to have become a ‘do what we want to’ area. Another snack bar has decided to uproot a tree and two benches on the pavement opposite it, to set up another unsightly plastic canopy. On busy days, it is near impossible to get to the steps on the cliffs because of the narrow walkway through the canopies.

One restaurant owner is not content with just that and his tables are all over the boat yard, all the way up to the jetty.

Dare I even mention the ‘ice-cream’ kiosk whose tables are spreading further into the road? I say ‘ice-cream’ as it has more food on its menu than most restaurants these days. Everyone has to make a living but, come on local council, sort it out before Xlendi becomes a mini-Paceville. Set some rules and stick by them.
