I would like to bring it to the attention of John Azzopardi (‘Bishops’ right, duty to guide’, March 12) that my “cute little letter”, as he called it, possibly in an attempt to belittle me, was never against the bishop preaching to his Church gathering. It was against the bishop telling politicians who happen to be Catholic that, as Catholics, they are in duty bound to impose on society – including non-believers – no alternative marriage other than the one the religious idealise, that it can only be between a man and a woman.

Well, in a true democracy, that would be simply out of order.

Apart from that, I was pretty sure that, on the subject of marriage, the Church was supposed to be more devoted to the union of souls aspect of it rather than the worldly matters of the flesh.
