The judiciary has expressed concern at the numerous bomb threats made on the law courts and called on the authorities to find solutions to avoid regular evacuations from the building.

In a statement, the Assocjazzjoni tal-mhallfin u Magistrati ta’ Malta said there were at least five such threats in the past three months when people had to be evacuated.

Such threats had been affecting the courts for several years and were detrimental both to the institution and the people who ended calling at the courts in vain as cases would have to be postponed.

The association called on the authorities to do all that was necessary to avoid the need to evacuate the building whenever there was a threat through the implementation of measures and placing of structures that could ensure that it would not be necessary to stop sittings in case of threats and evacuate the whole building.

Evacuations, the association said, should only take place in exceptional cases.

The association hoped that the competent authorities would unite to find a long lasting solution to avoid such waste of time whenever there were bomb threats.
