Whatever you’re looking for, McDonald’s can help you make your own way, with challenging careers, quality benefits and the best opportunities around.

McDonald’s gives you the tools you need to succeed, whether it’s the chance to tackle the corporate ladder or progress within McDonald’s rank while you finish your studies.

Ultimately, we believe that to be the best company possible, we need to offer the best opportunities to our employees.

Does McDonalds offer opportunities for career progression and a lifelong career?

We believe in empowering all our team members, developing their skills and nurturing their talent in order to further boost their business potential irrespective of what level they currently occupy. Thanks to this multifaceted strategy, most of our store managers and the majority of our top management employees started their career in our restaurants as crew members.

What skills are needed to work at McDonald’s?

Working at McDonald’s does not require any previous experience in the restaurant industry, as all training is provided in-house. The main attributes we look for are versatility and flexibility, being meticulous and having an eye for detail. We are also after individuals who are able to work in a team as this is of paramount importance and is key to the success of our business.

How important is personal development as well as teamwork?

According to Ray Kroc, McDonald’s founder: “If we are going to go anywhere, we have got to have talent. And I’m going to put my money in talent.”

At McDonald’s, we promote this philosophy every day, as we believe that to be at the forefront of the market, our people need to have the possibility to personally develop to their maximum potential, to be able to flourish within the company and beyond.

Operating within McDonald’s framework, teamwork is the key that makes us so successful.

What in-house training opportunities does McDonald’s offer?

Most employees joining McDonald’s start out as crew members. All new members undergo an intensive nine to 12-hour training session in the areas that they will be working in. Employees showing potential and an interest to progress within the McDonald’s system are given the opportunity to be trained and verified on all stations, with the possibility of being promoted to crew trainers.

In-house training is an ongoing process and in line with the level of our employees. For employees to continue their progression up the career ladder at McDonald’s, they need to attend and pass a basic shift management course and an advanced management course to be able to run shifts. Our restaurant managers are given further training in the UK, namely the restaurant leadership practices and business leadership practices programmes.

Our outlets don’t run smoothly by chance but thanks to our store managers who fully manage and control all restaurant operations. Apart from directly managing staff, which average around 75 employees per store, our restaurant managers are responsible for controlling profitability, optimising restaurant management and overseeing sales, human resources and team management.

What flexibility does McDonald’s offer its employees?

We believe in flexible schedules that fit into the lifestyle of our employees. Being a student or a working mum, or perhaps individuals interested in following the McDonald’s career path, makes no difference. McDonald’s believes in encouraging its employees to flourish and reach their goals. We also give our employees the mentorship and guidance they need to succeed.

What makes McDonald’s a good employer?

We believe the words “Welcome to McDonald’s” should apply to our employees just as much as our customers. We’re proud of our food and we’re just as proud of the jobs we create. Working at McDonald’s isn’t just about getting a job, but also about laying down the foundations for a life ahead of you. Here you’ll learn the importance of discipline and organisation, you’ll understand the value of teamwork, and you’ll further boost your confidence by proving to yourself, and to others, that you’re actually ready for this.
