The Aegon British Tour provides a circuit of tournaments in the UK designed to complement the international calendar, giving upcoming players an opportunity to figure on the international stage and gain experience as they bid to become professional players.

Players can gain points from each competition with a leaderboard displaying totals gained from each event throughout the season.

Similar to the WTA Tour and ATP Tour, the top players after all tournaments have been played are invited to the end-of-year Masters.

Bernard Cassar Torreggiani is currently studying in the UK while also aiming to improve his tennis to a higher level.

He was accepted at Culford School and also at Cambridge High Performance Centre where he is studying for his A Levels and also following an intensive tennis programme.

Last week he was accepted into the singles tournament at Loughborough and after that at Norwich into the qualifying rounds.

In the qualifying rounds (a draw of 64 players), he beat Florian Hagmann 6-2 6-4 and seventh seed Kieran Macarty 6-3 7-5.

The two wins placed him into the main draw where he beat sixth seed Jake Horton 4-6 6-1 6-0 and Tom Hands 1-6 6-1 7-5 to reach the quarter-finals and a match against Richard Bloomfield who represented Britain at the Davis Cup.

Bloomfield, the no.1 seed with a rating of 1.1 and highest world ATP ranking of 176, beat Cassar Torreggiani 6-3 6-1. He went on to win the tournament.

This is Cassar Torreggiani’s second year in the UK and from a rating of 5.2 he has improved to 3.1 following his participation in various tournaments and winning matches against opponents of a higher ranking.

At the end of the month, Cassar Torreggiani will be flying to Malta to participate in two ITF world ranking tournaments to be staged on our shores.
