There is a new Nokia Windows phone out that compares favourably with the Nokia Lumia 1520, which admittedly I loved. The Nokia Lumia Icon is a five-inch smartphone that uses a 2.2 GHz quad-core processor with an Adreno 330 and 2GB of RAM in support. That’s plenty of power to run most of the latest apps and plenty enough for it to compete with Android and iPhone rivals.

As well as a decent processor, the full HD OLED screen does a great job of providing a great phone experience. The screen is sharp, defined and offers great colour reproduction. At 441ppi, it’s detailed too. The screen also includes outdoor brightness mode and touch sensitivity especially for gloves.

It’s details like these that mark the Nokia Lumia Icon out as an outstanding phone. Add NFC, 4G, Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi to the mix and you have a compelling reason to try Windows Phone the next time you upgrade.

No discussion on a Nokia Lumia phone would be complete without discussing the camera. Clearly a major selling point for the Lumia line, the Nokia Lumia Icon doesn’t disappoint. The 20MP snapper complete with Carl Zeiss lens is a real standout feature. It has optical image stabilisation, digital zoom and various settings for budding photographers to spend hours experimenting with. There is also a 2MP front camera for the ubiquitous selfie.

Windows Phone OS still has a long way to go before it’s as fast or as fluid as Android – however it is gaining ground. The interface is slick, the app store ever growing and the user experience is improving with every update. It has gone from niche fan phone to real contender in the last two years and it isn’t stopping here.

Overall the Nokia Lumia Icon is a great phone. It might even be the best Lumia to date.
