Malta should be very proud of one of her humble sons, Antonio Sciortino, whose sculpture is in a class of its own and who deserves to be dubbed the ‘Maltese Michelangelo’.

His works are masterpieces gracing the localities where they are exhibited and attracting the attention of artists and art lovers alike.

Every single work is seemingly a heavenly-inspired, artistic product savouring the stupendous appearance and style of La Pieta’ and Davide.

It is high time that our ‘Michelangelo’ is commemorated and revered together with our prehistoric ancestors whose sculptural genius was responsible for the unique masterpieces of Ħagar Qim and Ġgantija.

Locally, Sciortino’s exceptional artistic genius is exhibited in the awe-inspiring, superb figure of Christ the King, the exquisite composition and execution of Les Gavroches and the breath-taking speed of the team of horses running so fast as if driven by jet propulsion.

Sciortino’s works abroad, like the Kiev monument in Ukraine, and in many other places, guarantee that his name as the ‘Maltese Michelangelo’ will endure forever in the history of art.
