Gozitan ornithologist, environmentalist and author Joe Sultana recently gave a lecture organised by Wirt Għawdex on Nature Sites in Gozo at St Cecilia chapel in Għajnsielem.

Sultana spoke about the island’s unique and beautiful natural environment and gave details of the composition of several sites, including Ramla Bay, Dwejra, Ta’ Ċenċ cliffs and Wied Ħanżira, among others. He illustrated his talk with photos of the nature sites and their flora and fauna.

He praised efforts made to protect these sites but also warned what would be lost if they are left to deteriorate or destroyed.

The fact that there was a full house consisting of people of all ages shows there is growing appreciation of the country’s natural heritage and interest to preserve and protect it, Wirt Għawdex said.
