Immaculate Conception School, Tarxien, which forms part of St Jeanne Antide College, recently organised an Eco Day to promote eco-friendly measures among students.

Each class took part in various activities aimed at raising awareness about waste separation and recycling. The students learnt how to separate recyclable waste and engaged in craft activity using plastic bottles and newspapers. The President’s wife Margaret Abela visited the school during the Eco Day.

For the past two scholastic years, the Eko Skola committee has been meeting during lunch breaks to plan and carry out its work. It aims to increase students’ awareness of development issues in the context of the environment.

Over the past few months the committee has undertaken various projects, including awareness speeches, holding fundraisers and healthy living activities and conducting the ‘Batterina’ campaign. The school also took part in several activities outside the college, such as visits to Xrobb l-Għaġin and Wasteserv.

“The committee is entirely run by students. Thanks to our enthusiasm and dedication we hope to make a difference in the school,” said Stefania Abela and Angela Aquilina, Eko Skola co-ordinators at the school.
