A six-session course on the geology of the Mediterranean basin is being offered by Malta University Consulting Ltd during April and May. The sessions will take place at the University Residence, Robert Mifsud Bonnici Street, Lija.
The course will provide participants with a broad background in global tectonics and geological principles. Special attention will be given to the Mediterranean basin, its origin and development and its role in major global geological events.
Participants will acquire knowledge and skills that will be useful in understanding scientific geological questions related to geohazards, geosite identification and non-renewable resources, among others.
The lecturers are Antoinette Grima and Aaron Micallef.
Ms Grima obtained her MSc in Geoscience with distinction from the University College London and has a keen interest in geology, geophysics and geodynamics, particularly of the Mediterranean basin.
Dr Micallef is a lecturer and Marie Curie fellow at the University’s Physics Department. As a marine geologist he uses quantitative techniques to solve problems related to submarine landslides, canyon fluid flow processes, submerged landscapes and seafloor mapping.
