The MaltMUN Society is an independent, internationally-minded organisation committed to securing close ties among the most diverse of its members, investing in their personal development and nurturing leadership skills, while embracing the spirit of the United Nations throughout.

To mark the first anniversary of its creation, the MaltMUN Society sent a delegation of 11 students hailing from various courses to take part in the 15th edition of the London International Model United Nations held at Imperial College.

Model United Nations is an academic simulation of the UN that aims to educate participants about current events, topics in international relations, diplomacy and the UN agenda.

Members of the Maltese delegation represented countries as diverse as France, the Philippines, the US and Germany.

This year’s edition also marked another first for the society, in that two of its delegates were selected to participate in some of the most highly competitive and prestigious simulations of LIMUN: Myrna Azzopardi assumed the role of a judge in the International Court of Justice, and Hillary Briffa took part in the crisis committee.

During the closing ceremony, awards are given to delegates who epitomised the spirit of LIMUN by succeeded in communicating their objectives, cooperating with other delegates, seeking a consensus, and representing the policy of their country accurately but not to the detriment of the committee.

MaltMUN Society president Chris Bergedahl won the award of Best Delegate in the World Health Organisation committee. The award for overall Best Delegation went to the MUN Society Belgium.

The MaltMUN Society was satisfied with the results it achieved at this year’s edition of LIMUN, which demonstrated the society’s dedication to maintain a high level of debate, leadership skills, and positive portrayal of the Maltese people internationally.
