Just over a year since she left the island to seek out new challenges in New Zealand, Claire Tonna is back home, and as one might expect from this charismatic artist, she’s been busy making more music.
Song-writing aside, her immediate focus has been a one-off concert that will revolve around songs from her debut CD album The Port, which she launched and toured in New Zealand last year, as well as new material she has written since its release.
Anyone who has been to her live performances will already be familiar with the personal nature of her songs, but this concert promises to be even more intimate than ever; an exclusive concert where she will sing the most intimate and tender conversations of life.
The concert, which is being presented in association with Stagedive Malta, will be all the more special because rather than relying on just her voice and guitar, Tonna will be accompanied by several musicians. Their participation will almost certainly present her songs in a new light.
Apart from The Port producer Mario Sammut on piano, the other musicians joining Tonna on stage are Michael Galea (drums), Sean Decelis (guitar), Justin Galea (backing vocals) and José Goruchapa (who will be flying in from Spain especially for this concert) on cello.
New Zealander Maria Mar, who wrote the lyrics to some of the songs on The Port, will also be participating, taking on the role of narrator.
Most Intimate will take place on Saturday at the British Legion, Melita Street, Valletta. Tickets cost €8 (€10 at the door) and are available either from St James Cavalier or by calling 2122 3200.
