Since 1991, the Dingli 10 has established itself as one of the most popular races on the local running calendar.

Known for its scenic beauty and the challenging route, this year’s Nestlè Fitness Dingli 10, organised by St Patick’s AC, will be held on Wednesday (Public Holiday).

The route is a fairly tough and hilly loop. The race starts at the Dingli square and, after an initial flat one-mile loop, runners proceed towards the Nigret area in Rabat.

The course winds down to Fiddien valley (the four-mile mark), and this is where the hills start. For three miles, runners follow various country roads, mostly going uphill, with occasional flat respites.

The eighth and ninth miles start with a short and steep hill, followed by a downhill stretch towards the spectacular Dingli Cliffs, and further rises and falls along the Cliffs’ panoramic road, which sap the energy reserves of all but the very toughest.

The final mile is a fast dash back towards the Dingli village centre, finally downhill, for a well-deserved applause from the spectators present.

Applications for Wednesday’s race close tomorrow but late registrations will be accepted at an extra cost.

Further information and the entry form may be obtained from the club’s website www.stpatricks-ac.com.
