ELLUL. On March 9, at Mater Dei Hospital, LAWRENCE of Birkirkara, aged 85, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Helen, his children Charles and Doris, Michael and his wife Therese, Mary and her husband Manuel Farrugia, his grandchildren Simone and her husband Nicolai, Joanne and her husband Edward, Chris and Lara, Tiziana and Kurt, Stefano and Michelle, and Elaine, other relatives and friends. GALEA-NAUDI. On March 7, at Mater Dei Hospital, JOSEPH of St Julian’s, passed away peacefully, aged 67, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Mandy, his two sons Peter and Julian, Sarah, his grandson Karl, his brothers Francis and Robert and their spouses, nephews, nieces, and close friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow at 1.30pm for Balluta parish church, where Mass præsente cadavere will be said at 2pm, followed by interment in the family grave at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Id-Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be greatly appreciated. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

KIRPALANI. On March 10, at St Vincent de Paul Residence, CHANDRA, aged 90, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her children John, Monique, Inez and Lakshmi and their spouses, grandchildren, nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves St Vincent de Paul Residence tomorrow at 2pm for Ta’ Braxia Cemetery chapel, Pietà, where Mass præsente cadavere will be said at 2.30pm, followed by interment. MIZZI. Suddenly, on March 9, CARMEN, née Mallia, aged 66, passed away peacefully, joining her children Maria, Joanna and Silvan, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her beloved husband Alfred, her son-in-law Ray Brincat, her sisters Silvia and Frank Millson, Anna and Joseph Bartolo, Antoinette Iemma, Rose and Alfred Scerri, Mary and Joseph Genovese, Maria Dolores and Nicholas Formosa, Margaret and Gaetano Scerri, her brother Joseph and Anne Mallia, nephews and nieces, cousins, relatives and friends in Malta and abroad. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 1.30pm for Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish church, Balluta, St Julian’s, where Mass præsente cadavere will be celebrated at 2pm, followed by interment in the family chapel at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, and Id-Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be greatly appreciated. The family regret they are unable to receive visitors. VELLA. On March 11, at Mater Dei Hospital, ANNA, née Zammit, aged 57, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church and surrounded by her loved ones. She leaves to mourn her sad loss her beloved husband Tony, her cherished children Andrew and Nicole and their partners Nicola and Kenneth, her mother Mona, her sisters Vikki and her husband Paul Falzon, Patty and her husband Roger Calleja and Simone, her father-in-law Gianmari, her in-laws Raymond and his wife Anna, Jesmond and his wife Vanessa, her aunts and uncles, nephews and nieces, cousins and numerous other relatives and friends. Anna will always be remembered for her outstanding courage and for the special care and dedication shown towards her beloved pets. The funeral cortége will leave Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow at 1.30pm for St Catherine parish church, Żejtun, where Mass præsente cadavere will be celebrated at 2.30pm followed by interment in the family vault at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery (entrance through the back gate).No flowers by request but donations to Id-Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be appreciated. May she rest in peace.

Ventricular Septal Defect Society Organisation (Malta)

Founder Massimo Camilleri, who organised a Christmas campaign, declares that funds raised totalled €104,000. Thanks to all those who contributed. The sum collected will be going towards children suffering from this disease.

Lenten retreat

The Archbishop’s Curia and the offices of Caritas will be closed on Friday between 8.30am and 2pm as bishops, priests and other employees of the laity will be attending a Lenten retreat.

The Ecclesiastical Tribunal in Valletta will be closed all day.

Furniture sale

An antique furniture sale is being held at St Helen parish centre Birkirkara (behind the basilica) from tomorrow to Sunday.

Opening hours will be daily between 9am and noon and 4.30 to 7.30pm.
