Remarks reportedly made by a policeman based at Rabat police station have been referred for an internal investigation.

Opposition Home Affairs spokesman Jason Azzopardi in a parliamentary question this evening asked the Home Affairs Minister to explain what authority a policeman whose name he enclosed, was frequently heard saying that he wanted Rabat police station purged of all Nationalists. He also claimed that he told the commissioner what to do in Rabat and now that Labour was in government, he could do whatever he liked.

Dr Azzopardi asked what action the ministry would take.

The minister, Manuel Mallia, said he had referred the allegations to the Police Internal Affairs Unit for investigation. He said that if confirmed, the ministry condemned such remarks and would expect disciplinary action.
