Social Policy Minister Marie Louise Coleiro Preca is set to make her farewell speech to Parliament on April 1, during which sitting, the House will later move to thank President Abela and debate the appointment of the new President.

During a meeting of the House Business Committee this evening, the government members disagreed with an Opposition request to discuss the issue of the Power Station permit within the Planning Development Committee. They argued that the committee did not have the remit to debate a planning application prior to a MEPA decision.

The Opposition MPs disagreed with this view and said that the committee had the right to question reports and discuss an application in the national interest.

The government MPs proposed that the discussion be held a the plenary session at the House. Alternatively, Mepa could hold its own consultation. The committee agreed that the plenary debate would be held next week.
