The two BOV Premier League matches at the National Stadium in Ta’ Qali, yesterday, were called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

The Malta Football Association issued a statement at around midday saying the top-six cruncher between Sliema Wanderers and leaders Birkirkara and Valletta vs Mosta, also from the Championship Pool, had been postponed following the heavy rain that fell in the morning.

“The rainstorm that hit the islands has rendered the pitch unplayable and in a bad condition. The two matches at Ta’ Qali are postponed,” the Malta FA said.

It was also announced that the matches will now be played tomorrow at the National Stadium with kick-off times set at 6pm (Valletta vs Mosta) and 8pm (Sliema vs Birkirkara).

Another sport falling victim to the bad weather yesterday was the horse racing meeting at the Marsa Racetrack.

The second hockey league match at Corradino had to be abandoned in the first half due to inclement conditions.
