Teachers at the Helen O’Grady Drama Academy recently had the opportunity to train under Alison Mazanec who was in Malta to conduct workshops and to meet and teach some of the students who attend the academy’s weekly development programme.

Mazanec is executive principal of the academy. She has over 26 years’ experience in training teachers to implement the academy’s award-winning curriculum that is designed to build self-confidence, encourage clear speech and nurture the creative talents of children.

“The academy in Malta has a fantastic reputation within our international network, and I can see why,”, said Mazanec. “The enthusiasm of the teachers here is exemplary, and their energy is through the roof. This is reflected in the faces of all the students of the classes I had the pleasure of observing.”

The intensive training week culminated in a day-long workshop during which Mazanec took teachers through the different curriculums provided for kindy and primary classes right through to youth theatre and adult classes.

“Training is ongoing for us to stay on top of our game and retain the high standards our students have become accustomed to,” said Alan Montanaro, principal for the Malta branch. “Lessons are constantly being revised and updated to ensure that our students get the very best, all the time.”

The academy follows a prepared curriculum that has been created over the years by teachers, parents and child psychologists to ensure the healthy development of children in an energetic, fun-filled environment without the pressure of looming examinations.
