By 2030 more than 23 million people will die annually from cardiovascular disease (CVD) or heart disease? Main risk factors include raised blood pressure, raised blood cholesterol, overweight/obesity and diabetes.
On the occasion of World Health Day, being celebrated internationally on April 7, Flora pro.activ, the Unilever range of cholesterol-lowering spread, milk and mini drinks, is once again organising a series of seminars focusing on cholesterol and obesity – two of the main risk factors in the development of heart disease.
The seminars, titled ‘Heart to Heart’, will discuss conditions associated with obesity such as cancer, sleep apnoea, arthritis and depression. Cholesterol will also be explained including the various different methods for reducing it. The seminars will also cover general healthy eating guidelines as well as the importance of integrating exercise into everyday life.
The seminars are free of charge and open to the public.
The first seminar is being held Monday, March 17 at the Westin Dragonara in St Julian’s from 11am to 1.30pm. This seminar will be led by Alexander Manché, consultant cardiothoracic surgeon and supported by Alicia Galea, state-registered nutritionist and Daniel Zammit, master trainer and lifestyle & wellness coach.
A second seminar, being held on Monday, March 24 at the Dolmen Hotel in Buġibba between 6pm and 8.30pm, will also be led by Mr Manché, and supported by Suzanne Piscopo, nutrition, family & consumer studies specialist and Daniel Zammit.
A final seminar will be held on Monday, April 7, World Health Day, at the Grand Hotel Excelsior between 12pm and 2.30pm again led by Mr and supported by Dr Piscopo and Mr Zammit.
At every session, specialists will take questions from the audience and offer advice. Although attendance is free, space is limited so bookings are accepted on a first come, first served basis.
