Qormi 6
White Hart 0
Qormi exerted early pressure on White Hart as top met bottom in a league match at Corradino on Sunday.
The league leaders took the lead on 11 minutes when Keith Calleja met a tailor-made right-wing cross from Thomas De Giovanni and slotted home to send Qormi 1-0 up.
Midfield play dominated for a while but on 18 minutes another cross from the right by Josef Cuschieri was pushed home from the centre of the D by Kyle Micallef, doubling Qormi’s tally.
Qormi did not avail themselves of two penalty corners and although White Hart shared the action from then on, they did not capitalse on a penalty corner awarded before half-time.
The game definitely swung Qormi’s way in the 46th minute when De Giovanni hit a sublime reverse stick shot into the net from the top of the D to send Qormi three up.
Five minutes later Calleja grabbed his second and his team’s fourth when the ball trickled into the net after a melee close to the goal line.
The game was now dominated by Qormi and they went further ahead when a cross was met with the slightest of touches by Luke Brincat, the ball being deflected into the net off a defender’s stick.
White Hart custodian, Robert Vassallo Agius, pulled off a fine save from a one-to-one situation.
Qormi were awarded a penalty corner soon after and Vassallo Agius was unable to stop a Juan Sarcia bombshell which gave Qormi their sixth goal sending them two points clear at the top of the table.
Umpires: Luke Busuttil Leaver, Edward Hughes.
