Let’s Do It Malta is calling for volunteers and certified divers to take part in a large-scale, two-day national clean-up event of the islands on May 10 and 11 on land and underwater. The areas to be cleaned will be identified and assessed in the coming weeks.

The event is part of an international coast and underwater regional action, a project called Let’s Do It Mediterranean, and involving over 20 countries. The five-year project aims to restore the environment through citizen participation from countries in Europe, Africa and the Near East bordering the Mediterranean.

A meeting was recently held for people interested in being involved in the project organisation during which the horizontal team strategy was presented.

“This clean-up is not just a two-day event, but a journey of a social movement gathering NGOs, volunteers, and the entire community to appreciate and cherish the environmental value of our islands,” said Faisal Sadegh, national coordinator of Let’s Do It Malta.

Inevitably, a lot of organisational work is required so Let’s Do It Malta has issued a call for more people who wish to be involved.

“We are facing an unprecedented project at both a national and regional level. It is only with the efforts of everyone, and with a bottom-up collaboration process, that big changes can be accomplished.

“We are not only doing this for a cleaner country, but also seeking for a change of mindset in our generation and those to come. Together, we can achieve anything, we only need to dream and do it,” said Sadegh.
