On what criteria should Malta’s president be chosen?

The president should, first and foremost, be a unifying figure for the Maltese people. The office and person occupying it merit respect, and in turn should represent the country with dignity, humility and finesse. Sarah Pace Warrington, 20, Bachelor of Laws.

Who should be President and why?

Historically, presidents have been figures from either side of the political divide. While this has practical implications when navigating tricky political terrain, it would be refreshing to see a break from this tradition. What do you think of having a female president?

The criteria should not be based on gender but rather the capability of the individual. However, if a female nominee is as well suited to the role as her male counterparts, then I would welcome her appointment with open arms. Sarah Pace Warrington

Having a female president instead of a male one makes no difference to me. As long as the job is done properly, gender is irrelevant. Justin Mamo

I have nothing against the fact that a female president might be chosen. I believe the criterion that I mentioned can be found just as easily in a female candidate as in a male candidate. Lyndsey Grima
