The newly set up Department of Gender Studies in the University’s Faculty for Social Wellbeing recently held a meeting with government bodies, agencies and NGOs on mainstreaming of gender issues. The aim was to consult stakeholders so that research undertaken at the department would be relevant to life outside campus.

The department is going to offer a Master’s degree by research in October and plans to offer a taught Master’s degree as from October 2015.

Department head Dr Marceline Naudi said it was important that students are guided to do research in subjects that really need the kind of deep understanding a Master’s degree can offer.

She added that the department is ready to accept applications from researchers wishing to read for a PhD.

The representatives present put forward various research suggestions and some of the associations also offered placement opportunities for future Master’s students.
