The Nationalist Party has filed two complaints with Public Broadcasting Services about yesterday’s news bulletin and the programme Dissett.

The PN said the Home Affairs Minister was the only person invited for Dissett, which discussed a number of issues including the sale of citizenship, the police force, the army, national broadcasting and political responsibility. All were matters of political controversy.

The PN asked the station to confirm that it would be inviting a PN representative as the sole participant of the next edition of the programme for the balance required by law to be achieved.

It said that unless this was done, it would have to formally request the Broadcasting Authority to order an effective remedy.

In its second complaint, the PN said the news bulletin yesterday started with a service about what the Home Affairs Minister said during Dissett including his reaction to a statement he had made that he would resign if just one day of residency was introduced in the citizenship scheme.

This matter, the PN said, had been uncovered by PN spokesman Jason Azzopardi on TVM2’s programme Realta.

But then, PBS had opted to report all speakers who took part in the programme except for Dr Azzopardi.

This clearly showed the selective manner PBS was reporting news. The station’s aim was only to promote the government’s agenda and protect the government, it said.

The party requested an explanation and a remedy.
