The Royal Navy frigate HMS Montrose is in Grand Harbour on a short visit.

It is heading home after handing over her duties to HMS Diamond in the mission to remove chemicals from Syria.

The frigate had been working alongside warships from Denmark and Norway on escort and protection duties for two merchant vessels that are transporting chemicals from Syria for destruction.

Known as Operation Recsyr, it is a mission that has also seen co-ordination with Russian and Chinese warships which are operating in the area.

The Type 23 'Duke' Class frigates was also in Malta in 2008.

It was launched in 1992, with its main role being anti-submarine warfare.
