Former European Commissioner President Romano Prodi heaped praise on Eddie Fenech Adami during TimesTalk yesterday, while also recalling his worry when the former Maltese prime minister decided to call an election right after winning the EU referendum.

Malta was the first of 10 EU states to hold a referendum in 2003. During the programme on TVM, Dr Fenech Adami explained why he needed to make a political calculation since the then Labour opposition had objected to EU membership.

Prof Prodi, who also served as Italian Prime Minister, made his comments to Herman Grech.
