The Icelandic mainstream and social media have been making fun of an Icelandic MP who revealed that she did not know that Malta is independent.
Vigdís Hauksdóttir of Iceland's Progressive Party, the country's leading anti-EU campaigner, made the gaffe in a TV debate, saying Malta is not an independent country, but rather a semi-autonomous region of another country.
With Iceland also having once had a chocolate named Malta, a meme is doing the rounds showing the MP holding a chocolate bar.
The text reads: Malta is not an independent state, it‘s a chocolate..
