St Ignatius College Girls’ Secondary School recently invited three African nationals to visit the school as part of the Cairo Peace Festival on the theme education4peace, which will take place on April 13.
The project involves over 9,000 students from 69 schools in 24 countries and the participants are encouraged to organise activities that foster peace.
The local school has been taking part for over two months, and although no students will be visiting the Egyptian festival, two Form 1 classes are participating by contributing poems, essays, posters, photos and videos.
The aim of the African guests’ visit was to get to know and appreciate people from other cultures as a first step towards world peace. The Maltese students shared songs and explained what they meant to them.
They also enjoyed being given the chance to play drums that their guests brought along and to dance while one of the guests sang songs in Arabic.
