In the week prior to turning out for Malta in the Euro 2014 first-leg semi-final qualifier against France last Saturday, a match in which he netted four goals in a 20-8 defeat (the others came from Niki Lanzon, Clint Mercieca, Matthew Zammit and Dino Zammit), Steve Camilleri had maintained his scoring spree for Italian top-division team RN Bogliasco.

The Neptunes stalwart hit eight goals in two matches and three more against SS Lazio Nuoto on Wednesday when Bogliasco won 12-5 away from home.

He has now brought up his tally to 34 league goals.

Camilleri also netted nine goals for Bogliasco in the previous three outings in the cup competition, thus helping his team qualify for the semi-finals.

So far he is two goals short of half a century in 22 matches, an average of 2.18 goals per match.

More than that, Camilleri has consolidated top position in his team’s scorers classification.
