Having your dog neutered eliminates or greatly reduces the chance of future health problems, but some owners are afraid to have their pet undergo this procedure due to the tendency of dogs to put on weight.

This is understandable, as if left unchecked, obesity can predispose a dog to many risks such as cancer, diabetes, joint problems and lower urinary tract disease. Besides, overweight or obese pets are often unhappy.

However, dogs that have been neutered will not put on extra weight after surgery as long as they maintain a correct diet, higher in protein and fibre, and are given enough exercise.

A beautiful coat and soft, supple skin are the best sign of a dog’s good health. An adult dry dog food diet deficient in essential nutrients can have an immediate and visible negative effect.

Research suggests that when dogs are given adequate nutrition by means of certain dry food premium brands that have the right balance of nutrients – according to the dog’s need, size and lifestyle – they have a longer life expectancy (average of 15 years).
