As part of its drive to raise awareness and provide education on information security, ISACA Malta Chapter organised an educational session on protection from security threats and system vulnerabilities for IT professionals and members of the local chapter.

ISACA Malta, the local chapter of the global association that helps business and IT leaders maximise value and manage risk related to IT, organises educational events on a monthly basis.

The focus of this educational event was to help attendees increase their awareness of identifying system weaknesses. More often than not, users place trust in the systems they use or manage and this may lead to a false sense of security. Using a number of practical examples Fabian Borg, founder, owner and managing director of ISEC and HLS-D Corporation Ltd provided the numerous attendees with insight and practical examples of how systems can easily be compromised when organisations neglect information security. The presentation helped attendees to format their mindset for critical risk analysis relating to systems that they use on a daily basis.

The presentation included the simulations of an attack on a wireless network, a technical discussion on how to protect a network as well as topics relating to risks emanating from cloud computing, virtual systems, payment gateways, bring-your-own-device systems and social engineering.
