Two dead men were found among 123 migrants rescued from a rubber dinghy off Lempedusa this morning.

The migrants were rescued by a merchant ship after an SOS call was made by the migrants, using a satellite phone.

The dinghy was intercepted some 145 miles south east of Lampedusa. 107 men and 16 women were on board.

The merchant ship is proceeding to the port of Augusta.
