Every dog has its day and about 100 made sure they did not miss out at their own pre-carnival show in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

A brass band and a singer belting out Rio’s anthem song Cidade Maravilhosa (Marvellous City) kicked off the festival as dog owners gathered to party with their pets on Copacabana beach.

Several canines wore tiny tutus, a few were dolled up like Snow White and one had a forehead full of Indian bindis.

One visitor was either feline brave or barking mad – a lone cat turned up wearing blue angel wings, thankfully enjoying the fun perched on its owner’s shoulders.

Rio is holding hundreds of street parties in the weeks leading up to the world-famous carnival, which opens on February 28.
