The first-ever Brussels Chocolate Festival drew around 30,000 visitors last weekend.

More than 90 chocolate labels displayed the latest tendencies of the chocolate industry over 4,000 square metres of exhibition space at the Salon du Chocolat.

Belgian Prime Minister Elio Di Rupo, ministers, prominent politicians, diplomats and others celebrated the sweet feast. Apparel made from chocolate generated huge public interest.

The country is among the world’s top five chocolate producers, with 450 confectionery factories located in Belgium alone.

In addition, it is currently the second largest consumer of chocolate in the world after Switzerland – each Belgian is reported to consume 10 kilos of chocolate per year.
