National Geographic photographer Reza Deghati will be in Malta to inaugurate an exhibtion featuring 85 large-scale photographs taken by children hailing from 91 countries. The exhibition is intended to raise awareness about important environmental issues as seen through the eyes of children.

Deghati’s name is synonymous with the National Geographic magazine, since many of his works have graced its covers. His works have been exhibited in most of the major institutions world-wide. He has also authored 17 books, including the best seller War + Peace.

Deghati originally launched the exhibition, titled Children’s Eyes on Earth, in Azerbaijan in May 2012. The photographer had invited local poet and photographer Charles Mifsud to attend this exhibition. Mifsud then teamed up with artist Tony Cassar Darien and started promoting Malta as the next venue for the exhibition .

All the photographs share the same themes – protecting the environment, preventing the causes of pollution and spreading knowledge concerning some of the challenges facing the planet. The exhibition is being sponsored by International Dialogue for Environmental Action.

While in Malta, Deghati will give an interactive lecture, delving into his experiences with diverse cultures and the secret of his success in photography.

He will also deliver a briefing on his work and projects to promote education through photography.

Children’s Eyes on Earth opens to the public at the Palace, Valletta, on Tuesday and runs until February 28. Deghati’s lecture takes place on Tuesday at 7pm, also at the Palace. Entrance is free and no booking is necessary.
