The second edition of the Wines and Restaurants of Malta.Com (WRMC) – Malta Restaurants Awards was recently held at the Portomaso Suite at the Hilton Malta, where over 260 representatives from 45 top local restaurants and hotels were treated to a five-course gourmet dinner.

The awards were split into three categories: the 30 best restaurants in the Maltese Islands Blue Riband Award; the five best Sunday buffet lunch restaurants; and the 10 best family-oriented, casual-dining restaurants.

Special awards included best, authentic and traditional cuisine restaurant, chefs’ speciality award for best cuisine presentation and innovation and the three best restaurants at the Valletta Waterfront.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of the 2014 One Silver Spoon Award by Economy Minister Chris Cardona to the six overall winners.

Premium wines served during thedinner were selected by the WRMC team. Two leading Italian winemakers, Piera Martellozzo Spa and Vinosia Srl, were the main sponsors.

The WRMC-Malta Restaurants Awards aim to enhance and create more awareness of quality in cuisine, service and value for money, not only among restaurateurs but also among diners.

Last year, more than 120 restaurants from all over Malta and Gozo were inspected and reviewed.

After being shortlisted to 50, the restaurants were then divided into categories and subjected to further anonymous inspections.

Reviews published on the WRMC website at http://www.winesandrestaurantsofmalta.com are also subject to further scrutiny by 12,000 registered members of the Restaurants in Malta – The Good, The Bad, The Rip-Offs Facebook group, through which comments on any of the reviewed restaurants can be posted.
