Blogger Daphne Caruana Galizia was today fined €35 for failing to obey a warden who told her to reverse her car.

The case happened on June 21.

Warden Graziella Buhagiar said she had been directing traffic in a road in San Gwann. Traffic was coming from opposite directions and a furniture lifter was taking up part of the road.

The warden said there were four small vehicles in front of Caruana Galizia's car while a coach and an SUV were on the opposite side.

Carmelo Zarb, one of the men using the lifter, said Caruana Galizia's car had passed the lifter, but the warden told her to reverse.

Traffic began to gather as an argument broke out. Caruana Galizia came out of the car and tried to take the warden's number.

Ms Caruana Galizia told the court that she had been following an SUV and a tourist coach. When she passed the lifter, the warden told her to stop and, in an aggressive manner, asked her whether she had seen her sign to stop.

Ms Caruana Galzia said she could not, because she was behind the coach and the SUV. It was not in her interest to disobey the warden and it was the warden's fault that traffic backed up.

She got out of the car to try to reason with her, trying to persuade her to let her drive on as that would free the traffic. She also told her she could not reverse. She then moved into a parking space in front of a garage.

Although the warden claimed she did not know who she was, Ms Caruana Galizia said it was obvious that she knew because she had told her that she could get her in the newspapers, for all she cared.

Ms Caruana Galizia was acquitted of driving carelessly, threatening the warden, assaulting her, breaching the peace and preventing a public official from doing her job, but she was convicted of failing to obey the warden's orders to reverse.
