The Occupational Health and Safety Authority said today that the situation with regard to injuries at the place of work could not be judged on the basis of three-month figures issued by the National Statistics Office, and a longer term needed to be considered,
It said that its figures showed how the number of (non-fatal) accidents on the job last year was lower than in the previous five years.
The OHSA pointed out that the NSO's figures on occupational accidents were based on social benefits requested by the workers from the Department of Social Security. The Authority supplied the figures on fatalities.
