The high-profile match at the Etihad Stadium, where new Premier League leaders Manchester City take on third-placed Chelsea, will be played on Monday night.

In midweek, City trounced Tottenham 5-1 at White Hart Lane to leapfrog Arsenal at the top of the standings. Chelsea were unable to keep the pace as they were held to a goalless draw by strugglers West Ham at Stamford Bridge.

Incidentally, Manchester City and Chelsea will also clash in the FA Cup fifth round with Manuel Pellegrini’s team again enjoying home advantage.

City striker Stevan Jovetic is determined to make up for lost time after a nightmare start to his career at the Etihad and challenge the top three attackers. He was on target against the Spurs on Wednesday.

Manchester City have a perfect home record this season. They’ve scored 42 goals in 11 league wins, making the Etihad a place to avoid for the rest of the Premier League sides.

In the FA Cup match against Watford at home, Sergio Aguero saved City from a shock upset as his treble gave the side a 4-2 win after they were 0-2 in arrears.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has admitted his regret at not being able to fit Juan Mata into his team. The Spaniard left for Manchester United earlier this week in a record signing for the champions.

Chelsea, meanwhile, are willing to offer captain John Terry a coaching role for next season, yet the veteran defender is pushing for a new contract after his current deal expires in June.

In the first round match in London, Chelsea toppled Manchester City 2-1.

In the last decade in the Premiership, the outcome shows a perfect balance with both teams winning five matches each at City’s home ground.

Arsenal, held by Southampton in midweek, play Crystal Palace in a London derby tomorrow.

Palace, who lost at Wigan in the FA Cup, hit back by beating Hull at home to slightly improve their position at the lower half of the standings.

This will be the sixth all-London clash for the Gunners, having won five and drawn the other.

Manager Tony Pulis says he has become frustrated with Palace’s failure to sign players after a deal for Mohamed Sissoko collapsed.

Following the 4-0 triumph over Merseyside rivals Everton, Liverpool will take a trip to the Midlands to play guests to West Brom at the Hawthorns.

The Reds will continue to rely on their striking tandem of Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge to keep them with a chance of finishing fourth and claim a Champions League berth.

After the derby loss, Everton take on Aston Villa at Goodison Park.

Leighton Baines has agreed a new four-year contract at Everton, with manager Roberto Martinez describing the deal as a ‘phenomenal boost’ for the club.

Like the Merseyside duo, Tottenham are also vying for a top-four placing even though they will have to forget all about the midweek thrashing to Manchester City to achieve their goal.

Today, the Spurs face Hull at the KC Stadium.

Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has hinted he could quit Tottenham this summer if they miss out on the Champions League next season.

Manchester United, with Mata in their line-up, defeated Cardiff at Old Trafford earlier this week.

Rumours are rife that Wayne Rooney could be promoted to team captain and handed a new deal by manager David Moyes.

The north east derby between Newcastle and Sunderland is on again at St James’ Park, after the earlier clash at the Stadium of Light ended 2-1 for the Black Cats who had Paolo di Canio in the helm.

Newcastle, who parted with midfielder Yohan Cabaye in a big-money move to Paris SG earlier this week, are coming from a draw with Norwich while Sunderland moved out of the bottom three after a win against Stoke.
