Qormi 2
Rabat 1

Qormi won the match by the odd goal in three with the game coming to life in the second half.

This victory sees them sharing top spot with Young Stars at the halfway stage in the league.

After a slow start, the match sprung to life on 37 minutes when Julian Bonello put Qormi ahead.

A period of Qormi pressure followed and Zachary DeGiovanni shot a delightful reverse hit which crept just past the post.

Qormi started to dictate proceedings and suddenly the excitement increased when two goals were scored in the space of two minutes.

The teams’ penalty corner experts came to the fore – Shawn Falzon equalising for Rabat and Juan Sarcia netting to send Qormi 2-1 ahead, a lead which they deservedly held until the end of the match.

Umpires: Manuel Imbroll, Edward Hughes.

Young Stars 1
Sliema Hotsticks 0

The first half was contested mainly in midfield with actions inside the D few and far between.

On 19 minutes, Hotsticks were awarded a penalty corner and James Mizzi, Young Stars’ keeper, kept his goal intact when he parried a shot from close range, diving full length to his right.

Luke Borg Costanzi nearly opened Young Stars’ tally when he met a cross from the right flank but pushed the ball just past the post.

The second half was a livelier affair and Young Stars breached the Hotsticks’ defensive lines on 61 minutes when Mark Camilleri scored the only goal of the match as he connected in style, resulting from a penalty corner action.

The game swung to and fro with the tempo increasing rapidly. Young Stars were denied when Andrei Imbroll cleared off the line after the ball rebounded off the keeper’s pads.

Umpires: Luke Busuttil Leaver, Paul Brincat.
