A man who pulled a necklace off an elderly woman as she sat at an open air cafe in Valletta has been jailed for four years.

Christopher Agius admitted to having attempted to steal the necklace off Maria Muscat while she sat at Cafe’ Cordina in Pjazza Regina in the late afternoon of August 22, 2010.

He pulled the necklace with such force tht the woman fell and suffered serious injuries.

However the necklace fell from Agius’s hands and he ran off with an accomplice.

Agius pleaded guilty before the start of a trial. He was also convicted of having violated the conditions of a previous court sentence.
