Aldo Moro Road reopened after factory leakage causes traffic chaos

Updated 6.10 p.m.

All North-bound lanes of Aldo Moro Road in Marsa have been reopened, having been closed for some two hours earlier because of a chemical spill from a nearby factory.

The closure caused massive rush hour traffic jams including the south-bound lanes. Most traffic was diverted through Qormi.

Motorists reported traffic jams all the way to the airport, with Regional Road in Msida also jammed.

The clean-up was coordinated by a specialist team within the Civil Protection Department. The chemical liquid was collected in tanks and the road was then washed using fire tenders.
