The Year of the Horse is round the corner and all is set at the Grand Hotel Excelsior to celebrate in style the most important festivity in the Chinese calendar.

The Year of the Horse starts on Friday and lasts to February 18, 2015.

The hotel lobby has been decorated with authentic Chinese decorations which are a symbol of growth and prosperity, while looking forward for a new beginning as we welcome the Year of the Horse.

Chinese New Year, better known in China as the Spring Festival, is a time to welcome longevity, wealth and prosperity and to eliminate any negative events from the past. In Chinese tradition, each year is dedicated to a specific animal. The dragon, horse, monkey, rat, boar, rabbit, dog, rooster, ox, tiger, snake, and ram are the 12 animals that are part of this tradition. Each of these animals is thought to bestow their characteristics to the people born in their year. In 2014, the horse is welcomed back after 2013, the Year of the Snake.

People born in the Year of the Horse are vigorous and energetic. Their most striking point lies in their strong self-confidence and gentleness. Some famous personalities who were born in the Year of the Horse are Harrison Ford, John Travolta, Cindy Crawford, Oprah Winfrey, Denzel Washington and Beatles legend Paul McCartney.

Chinese people may celebrate this feast in slightly different ways but their wishes are almost the same; they want their family members and friends to be healthy and lucky during the new year.

Dine at Spice Island on Thursday, the evening preceding the Chinese New Year, and experience a traditional Chinese feast as Excelsior’s Asian chefs prepare a special Lunar New Year themed menu. The sumptuous dinner will include live cooking stations, authentic sushi corner, and signature dishes such as the Thai red curry chicken, deep-fried ribs with ginger, duck leg with coconut, coriander and sweet peppers and Punjabi lamb rogan.
