US embassy staff led by Ambassador Gina Abercrombie-Winstanley and sailors assigned to the guided-missile frigate USS Simpson teamed with employees of Grech & Ellul today to renovate a local shelter for survivors of domestic violence.

Grech & Ellul donated paint, lunches and other equipment as well as their expertise to ensure the successful completion of the project.

More than 45 participants took part in the project which involved the painting of a room and two living areas for residents at Dar Qalb ta’ Gesu.

This project commemorated the Martin Luther King Day of Service, celebrating a man who lived his life in service to others.

It was held in conjunction with Simpson’s port visit to Malta as part of US Naval Forces Europe-Africa’s commitment to strengthening maritime partnerships. The Simpson’s sailors were glad they could lend a hand to honour the legacy of Dr King through service.

The Simpson is on scheduled deployment supporting maritime security operations and theatre security cooperation efforts in the US 6th Fleet area of responsibility.
