Malta International Airport is to invest €3.6 million on infrastructural improvements this year to ensure more efficiency and capacity.
The non-Schengen area of the terminal will grow by 650 square metres, creating space which will also improve passenger flows within the Schengen Area.
The apron and taxiway will also see infrastructural improvements to ensure additional capacity, enabling a scheduling opportunity for 15 to 20 additional movements per day as well as more efficient flows of aircraft
The check-in area’s baggage handling unit will be extended to reduce queuing time during peak periods, thus minimising inconveniences to passengers while increasing general capacity.
The airport is also investing in new security technology in line with EU regulations which will come into force on January 31.
MIA handled more than four million passengers last year, its busiest year to date.
