Stephen Vella was the top marksman in the Attard Brothers Trap Selection shoot organised by the Malta Shooting Sport Federation at its ranges in Bidnija last weekend.

The competition was on 125 clays with the top six to qualify for the semi-finals, on 15 clays, before another round of 15 for the medal match.

Vella was in top form in the semi-finals as he smashed 15 out of 15 single shots before hitting 14 in the medal match against James Galea to take the top podium place.

Vella’s score for the competition, held under the new ISSF regulations, was a national record.

During the shoot, two straights of 25 were registered, one by Brian Galea and the other by Noel Attard.

Result: 1. Stephen Vella 111-15-14; 2. James Galea Jr 110-14-12; 3. Noel Attard 106-10-12; 4. George Cassar 107-11-9; 5. Brian Galea 117-9; 6. Mario Zammit 110-8.

Next weekend, the federation will be holding a Skeet and Double Trap selection shoots at Bidnija.
