Ta’ Mena Estate has been awarded the 2013 Entrepreneur of the Year by the Gozo Tourism Association.

Ta’ Mena Estate won the award for being innovative and authentic in the tourism sector, producing genuine Gozitan food products and wines while providing a real, rural Gozitan experience to visitors.

The presentation ceremony was held at the Grand Hotel in Mġarr and the award presented by Gozo Minister Anton Refalo to managing director Joseph Spiteri.

Ta’ Mena Estate is owned by the Spiteri family – Joseph, Margaret, Philip, Mark and Patrick, together with their father Frank.

The estate was founded by the children’s late mother Carmela, popularly known as Mena, who had worked hard to purchase and cultivate the land until her death in 1986, when the project was partially shelved.

In 2002, the Spiteris decided to regenerate their land to fulfill their mother’s dream of integrating agriculture with tourism. After seven years, this project is taking shape and should be completed in the next two years.

The aim of the project is for guests to learn about crops, trees and food processing in the traditional way. The owners would like the place to be an educational experience to young children, adolescents and adults.
