Archaeologist and author David Trump recently spoke of his personal experiences of archaeology in Gozo at a lecture at St Cecilia chapel, Għajnsielem. Organised by Wirt Għawdex, the talk was accompanied by a presentation of photos by Daniel Cilia.
The audience, which packed the chapel, was enthralled by Dr Trump’s recollections of his many years of involvement in Gozo’s archaeology. Although he dealt with what is normally a data-heavy subject, thanks to his lighthearted and fast-moving manner, as well as his many anecdotes, he kept the audience engaged and amused. His love of the subject matter and, particularly, of Gozo and Malta, came through clearly as he recalled events, places and names effortlessly from memory.
He ended his talk by praising those who had picked up where he left off and augured that the work to uncover more of the islands’ prehistory will keep on going as he believes there are still more amazing discoveries to be made. At his lecture he shared with the audience a picture of a recent, unexpected archaeological find in Gozo.
