The Planning Authority has approved development permit for the setting up of pontoon at ta’ Xbiex, raising capacity to 92 berths for yachts from the present 41.

A 104m-long pontoon will be laid by Transport Malta as part of a project for the reorganisation of the marina, providing an additional 48 berths.

The project also includes the building of a low voltage switchroom adjoining the existing Enemalta substation at Ta’Xbiex garden and a small office on the pontoon.

A further four pontoons will replace boat moorings and provide 155 berths at Ta' Xbiex seafront. The pontoons will be between 109m and 63m long. The application was filed by Mark Darmanin Kissaun. Objections to the four pontoons were filed by neighbouring residents - because of fears of noise, sea pollution and parking problems - and by amateur fishermen who will lose their moorings.
